Airline Crew Shuttle Curbside Coordination
As international flights continue to recover, the TBIT crew shuttle pickup area has been increasingly busy. To optimize the use of the curb space, LAWA Operations is pleased to restore the curbside coordination program starting on June 20, 2022. Active management of the curb front will reduce crew wait time, minimize traffic re-circulation and reduce shuttle dwell time at the curb. The program will include two attendants, one in the terminal and the other at the curb. Together, they will work in tandem to dispatch buses on-demand from the shuttle staging area to TBIT curb when all crew members have cleared FIS and ready to board. The attendants will be available daily from 0700 to 2300 hours.

This program will help to address the current reduction of TBIT curb space and impacts from other construction projects planned in the near future. Without proper oversight, shuttle drivers may not find curb space, forced to re-circulate the Central Terminal Area (CTA) and delay crew from boarding. This interruption will also aggravate traffic condition and congestion in the CTA roadway.
Unlike the previous program, crew members do not have to visit the kiosk to register their arrival but instead simply check-in with an attendant in the terminal. Crew members will continue to take the same path of travel from FIS to the north side of TBIT. Behind the scene, the attendants will maintain direct communication with the shuttle dispatcher and/or driver to have situational awareness of their location and estimated time of arrival. When all crew members are ready to board the attendant will secure a curb space and direct the shuttle driver to that location. This works only when all crew members are present and are ready to board the shuttle. Terminal attendant will be in TBIT arrival level at the north end. The attendant will display a lollipop sign for greater visibility. One crew member will need to check-in with the attendant. When the shuttle arrives all crew members will be directed to the crew bus zone. This is located between TBIT and Terminal 3 on the outer lane. See blue star on the map.
