LAX TERMINALS 2 & 3 MODERNIZATION PROJECT

The Terminals 2 and 3 Modernization Project plays an integral role in LAWA’s efforts to modernize the north terminals. Approximately 830,000 square feet of new building space would be added to the two terminals. The proposed project would provide additional space balanced with passenger demand for ticketing, passenger and baggage check-in, and security screening. The proposed project would ease congestion and provide enhanced connectivity between the two terminals – both within the ticketing and check-in portion as well as post-security screening and would enable increased operational flexibility and efficiency, including the potential relocation of Delta Air Lines to Terminals 2 and 3 from their current location at Terminals 5 and 6.

Proposed Project Elements

  • Upgrading the Terminal 2 concourse
  • Demolition and reconstruction of the Terminal 3 concourse building
  • Demolition of the southern appendages of the Terminal 3 satellite (oval shaped structure at the north end of Terminal 3)
  • Demolition and reconstruction of the passenger and baggage processing facilities (ticketing buildings) at Terminals 2 and 3.

LAX Specific Plan Compliance Review Process:

Prior to issuing any grading, building or use of land permit on the a proposed Project, the Los Angeles City Council must grant an LAX Plan Compliance approval pursuant to the LAX Specific Plan. This approval will be based on recommendations from LAWA’s Executive Director and the Board of Airport Commissioners. The Executive Director’s recommendation will be included in the Executive Director’s Report.
