TWENTY-FIVE AVIATION COMPANIES AWARDED FOR OUTSTANDING COMPLIANCE WITH VAN NUYS AIRPORT’S FLY FRIENDLY STANDARDS
Twenty-Five Aviation Companies Awarded for Outstanding Compliance with Van Nuys Airport’s Fly Friendly Standards
(Van Nuys, California – June 4, 2014) Earlier this week, 25 general aviation companies received Friendly Flyer Awards for achieving outstanding compliance with the Van Nuys Airport’s (VNY) Fly Friendly Program for calendar year 2013. Winners of the second annual Friendly Flyer Award were recognized at the Board of Airport Commissioners meeting held at Van Nuys City Hall.
VNY is committed to being a good neighbor and continues to require stricter standards for the voluntary noise abatement measures. The voluntary Fly Friendly/Quiet Departure Program for jet aircraft was established in 1994 to address the community’s concerns regarding jet aircraft noise in neighboring areas. LAWA created the annual "Friendly Flyer" award to acknowledge those jet operators who complied with all noise abatement policies and procedures and achieved the highest level of success in adhering to the Fly Friendly/Quiet Departure Program. "We are proud of the award recipients. The Fly Friendly program encourages aviation businesses to be responsible neighbors." said Van Nuys Airport Manager, Jess Romo.
The award winners were determined using the following criteria:
• At least 60 southbound jet departures during the calendar year
• No violations of noise ordinances:
o Noise Abatement & Curfew Regulation (Ordinance Nos. 155727 and 171889)o
Non-Additional Rule (Ordinance No.173215)o

About Van Nuys Airport:
VNY is one of three airports owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a self-supporting branch of the City of Los Angeles, governed by a seven-member Board of Airport Commissioners who are appointed by the mayor and approved by the Los Angeles City Council.
One of the world's busiest general aviation airports, VNY serves as a valued San Fernando Valley resource, providing ongoing leadership in general aviation, business and community service. Dedicated to noncommercial air travel, VNY had over 270,000 operations in 2013. More than 100 businesses are located on the 730-acre airport, including four major fixed-base operators and numerous aviation service companies.
Annually, the airport contributes approximately $1.3 billion to the Southern California economy and supports over 12,000 jobs. In addition, VNY provides programs to benefit local residents, along with educational initiatives and aviation-related career and training opportunities. LAX, the sixth-busiest airport in the world serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022, is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), a proprietary, revenue-generating department of the City of Los Angeles that also governs Van Nuys Airport (VNY). As the international gateway to the Southern California region, LAX and its partners are dedicated to meeting global airport standards for customer satisfaction, safety, regional economic leadership, organizational performance and sustainability.
To better serve the millions of domestic and international guests that travel through LAX each year, the airport is undergoing a multi-billion-dollar capital improvement program to modernize its entire campus. Initiatives underway include an Automated People Mover, a Consolidated Rental Car Facility and two projects that will each add over one million square feet to the airport's existing property: Terminal 9 and Concourse 0.
