SUSTAINABILITY ELEMENTS

Water Management

LAWA has proactively improved its water use efficiency over the past several years, resulting in a steady decline of potable water use per passenger.
Water use reduction strategies include:

  • Installing water efficient fixtures in restrooms in the terminals
  • Converting turf to native, drought-tolerant landscaping
  • Reducing irrigation frequency to twice a week
  • Using weather-based irrigation controllers
  • Adding purple piping to bring reclaimed water to airport facilities
  • Using reclaimed water for dust control during construction
  • Requiring all new construction to be compatible with reclaimed water use.
