Safety Management System |
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is actively developing an SMS to enhance the safety performance of operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The scope of the LAX SMS encompasses movement and non-movement areas, known as the Air Operations Area (AOA). Implementation of the LAX SMS is underway and is expected to be fully implemented by March of 2027 in accordance with 14 CFR part 139, Subpart E.
The LAX SMS is an integrated collection of processes and procedures that provides a formalized and proactive approach to system safety through risk management. SMS enables proactive identification of hazards associated with airport operations, development, and other changes, which allows airport management to mitigate potential risks before they result in accidents, incidents, injury, or damage.
