Los Angeles International Airport Film Office

Required Documents


All the following documents must be submitted prior to using any LAX Airport property

**NO EXCEPTIONS**

Insurance

  • $10 million required for all airfield and/or ramp areas
  • $1 million for all other areas
  • All insurance must be submitted through and approved by LAWA Risk Management prior to production company use of airport property

All insurance paperwork requires a minimum of seven (7) business days to process after receipt of proper paperwork – NO EXCEPTIONS

Film Permit

  • Signed film permit is required prior to using airport property

Letter of Intent

  • Production company must submit a Letter of Intent to the LAX Film Office on production company letterhead prior to using airport property

- Sample Letter

  • Production company must be specific regarding:
    • Dates
    • Times – specific arrival/departure times
    • Filming Location(s) – specific terminal, parking areas, curbside, airfield, ramp, etc. and whether filming will occur in more than one area at a time
    • Number of cast/crew
  • Base camp/parking requests Type of equipment – cameras, lights, generators Based on the type of filming, duration and logistics involved, the Film Office will determine the level and type of supervision required

Cast/Crew Names submitted for background check

  • Required for any use of restricted areas (areas past TSA screening, airfield, ramps, aircraft, etc.)

All background checks require a minimum of five (5) business days to process

Tenant Approval

Any commercial filming/photo shoot of a tenant or airline space, including certain terminals, logos or signs, must be approved, IN WRITING, by the respective tenant or air carrier a minimum of three (3) business days in advance of the film shoot

 

Filming in Secured Areas


Secured areas include:

  • All areas located past the TSA Screening Checkpoint (gate areas, concessions, airline lounges, etc.)
    • All ramp areas (including the terminal gates, cargo areas, Landmark Aviation, Atlantic Aviation, and the Flight Path Museum/Imperial Terminal ramps)
    • Filming of any TSA personnel, equipment or procedures is strictly prohibited
    • Filming of any U.S. Customs and Border Protection (U.S. CBP) personnel, equipment or procedures is strictly prohibited
  • Background checks are required for all cast/crew in order to film beyond the TSA Screening Checkpoint or on the airfield/ramp areas

All background checks require a minimum of five (5) business days to process

 

Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD)


  • All production companies using airport property are required to notify the LAFD regarding equipment use
  • Fire Department shall be in attendance at all technical scouts and film details as determined by the Fire Department

 

Rates


  • Rates are based on location use and personnel required
  • All film productions require airport personnel to be present at each location during any prep, filming and/or strike
  • Use of any parking location(s) require airport personnel to be present
  • When using any tenant leasehold area(s) the location fee will be provided by the tenant

 

Estimates & Payments


  • All estimates will be based on the letter of intent provided by the production company to the LAX Film Office
  • All payments are collected by Film L.A.
