Laraaji

April 18 & 19

Terminal 7

Legendary composer and multi- instrumentalist Laraaji honed his unique musical sound through experiments on the electric zither, a unique 12-stringed instrument, on the sidewalks, plazas, and festival stages of New York in the late 1970s. He now tours worldwide as a popular new-age ambient musician and recording artist, with several solo and collaborative music projects such as Celestial Vibration (1978), Ambient 3: Day of Radiance (1980; produced by Brian Eno), Vision Songs, Vol. 1 (1984), Bring on the Sun (2017), and Arrive Without Leaving (2018).

Laraaji now collaborates with musical artist Arji OceAnanda for “Deep Listening” live performances, using multiple instruments such as the celestial ambient melodies of electric zither, African thumb piano (“kalimba”), ecstatic voice, nature sounds, gentle percussion, and iPad synths for deep meditative and inspirational listening.

Laraaji’s performances are not limited to musical experimentation. In his meditation “LAUGHTER: THE BEST MEDICINE” Laraaji guides a playful educational exploration of our laughter as a medically documented health therapy and stress-reductive technique. Heavy laughter as a cathartic release is engaged in to enter deeper states of relaxation and reconnect to our own inner child. Guided “laughter-cises,” feature gentle live music, deep guided relaxation, and "serious" fun.
