(Los Angeles, California – October 27, 2017) The Los Angeles Airport Police added two new officers to the Nation’s largest aviation law enforcement agency.  In a ceremony held at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Elysian Park Academy, Airport Police Chief David L. Maggard Jr. swore in Officer Nahum Axume and Officer Sebastian Jones.

Officer Axume, a native Angelino and former Redondo Beach Police Department Municipal Services Officer and Cabrillo Beach lifeguard, returns to Los Angeles International Airport where he previously worked as a Spanish translator.  Officer Jones, a Montana transplant gained his exposure in law enforcement as a L.A. County Sheriff’s Explorer, later enlisting in the U.S. Air Force as a member of the Security Forces Unit prior to joining the Airport Police.

Before swearing in his newest Police Officers, Chief Maggard thanked the graduates and their families and said, “The past six months was just the beginning, you are entering a rewarding career full of excitement and challenges but I’m confident that you are up for the challenge and will serve us well.”
Officers Axume and Jones will now begin a six-month Field Training Program specific to aviation law enforcement under the guidance of a field training officer before being assigned to the Patrol Services Section.

In addition to 550 sworn officers, Los Angeles Airport Police Division also employs 430 security officers and nearly 200 civilian professional staff. As the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the nation, Airport Police patrols and secures Los Angeles International Airport, the Nation’s second busiest and world’s fourth busiest airport, and VNY general aviation airport.
