(Los Angeles, California – April 22, 2015)More than a hundred police, fire and federal first responders attended the 1st Annual Area Honor Guard Conference at the Rio Hondo Police Academy in Pico Rivera. Co-hosted by Los Angeles Airport Police and the Los Angeles Police Department, those who attended were treated to a rare and up-close, “Tribute to the Fallen”, demonstration by the United States Air Force Regional Honor Guard, from March Air Force Base.
Conference organizers, Airport Police Honor Guard Team Leader Officer Thomas Dye and Los Angeles Police Department Lieutenant John Russo assembled a program with key note speakers to provide information about resources and support. Speakers focused on a variety of topics including emotional wellness and support, funeral planning and logistics, National Honors Flag protocol and more.
This interactive conference focused on the overall needs of Honor Guards and helped to establish a communication network for training, equipment and assistance among the members of the many different Honor Guards in attendance.
“The Honor Guards conduct themselves with true pride, professionalism and represents the best of who we are as an organization,” said Assistant Airport Police Chief Brian Walker. “I was proud to see how the hard work, dedication and collaboration between Los Angeles Airport Police and the Los Angeles Police Department contributed to a very successful conference.”
