TWO AIRPORT POLICE OFFICERS RECOGNIZED AT WESTCHESTER ELKS LODGE “LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION NIGHT”
(Los Angeles, California – March 10, 2015,) Los Angeles Airport Police Officer Sean Foley, a ten-year veteran, and Officer Matsumoto, an eight-year veteran were honored as Officer of the Year at Law Enforcement Appreciation Night hosted by Westchester Elks Lodge. The event was held to recognize and honor law enforcement’s finest, sworn and civilian men and women, whose service to the Westchester community was exemplary in 2014.
Officers Foley and Matsumoto were honored for their great work and collaboration in the Comprehensive Airport Security Program. Both officers have been assigned to the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) and were responsible for ensuring a safe environment for business and travel through the adherence of the Airport Security Program. From the inception of the construction of TBIT, the officers placed emphasis on security awareness, physical security, and the planning and coordination of all stakeholders involves in the construction processes.
The $2 billion TBIT project is providing greater capacity with a total of 18 new gates; nine of which nine can accommodate larger, new-generation aircraft like the A-380.
Both officers went above and beyond the Federal Requirements to enhance public safety while TBIT was being built, by developing new policies, now standardized throughout the airport. The officers also developed training for thousands of employees to enhance the overall security at LAX. They continuously monitored current threats to the aviation industry and developed strategies to enhance security measures and assessed vulnerabilities including “insider threats” by conducting audits and testing in plain clothes operations.
As Chief of Airport Police Patrick Gannon presented the officers with their awards, he said, “It is my honor to present this award for the dedication and commitment that both these officers presented in their daily activities which contributed to the success of Los Angeles World Airports.”
The Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the Nation's premier aviation law enforcement agency with more than 1,100 specially trained police officers, security officers, and civilian staff protecting Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys airports.
