THREE NEW OFFICERS SWORN-IN AS AIRPORT POLICE

(Los Angeles, California – September 28, 2018) The largest aviation law enforcement agency in the Nation just increased by three.  In a graduation ceremony held at the iconic Los Angeles Police Academy, LAPD Class 4-18 which included three new Airport Police officers were sworn into service.
 

New Airport Police Officer Yvette Alcaraz-Gonzalez, who was elected class secretary, is no stranger to airport security.  The native Angeleno is a former supervisor for TSA and has spent the past eleven years keeping the frendly skys safe for travelers.  New Officer Joe Mendoza is a former code enforcement officer and graduate of National University with a masters degree in public administration. Mendoza, a squad leader of Class 4-18 was elected by his class to receive the Tina Kerbrat award for the most inspirational recruit and was selected top overall recruit in physical fitness. While computer forensics student and afinionado as well as former aerospace contractor, Brad O'Donnell, rounds out the trio of highly qualified new officers.  

Before swearing in his newest officers Chief of Airport Police David L. Maggard Jr. spoke to the academy graduates and their families and said, "I'd like to welcome you to the Airport Police family where we have a proud tradition based on diversity, strong partnerships and service to our community, congratulations."
 

The three new Airport Police Officers will now begin a six-month Field Training Program specific to aviation law enforcement under the guidance of a field-training officer.  Upon completion, they will be assigned to the Patrol Services Section.

In addition to 550 sworn officers  

In addition to 550 sworn officers, Los Angeles Airport Police Division also employs 430 security officers and nearly 200 civilian professional staff. As the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the nation, Airport Police patrols and secures Los Angeles International Airport, the Nation’s second busiest and world’s fifth busiest airport, and Van Nuys general aviation airport.
