(Van Nuys, CA) On Wednesday, November 1, Van Nuys Airport (VNY), in partnership with the Valley Economic Alliance and 20 aviation companies, hosted an Aviation Career Day for approximately 700 students from Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) for a unique opportunity for students to explore the dynamic world of the aviation industry.

Notable attendees included California State Senator Caroline Menjivar (District 20) and LAUSD Board Vice President Scott Schmerelson (Board District 3).

The three-hour program had a lineup of activities that educated and captivated the minds of aspiring aviators. Students had the unique chance to interact with experts from the aviation sector, witness awe-inspiring presentations, engage in thrilling demonstrations, and marvel at aircraft exhibits. VNY also held guided tours that showcased the operations of the airport, with stops at the renowned firefighting aircraft Super Scoopers.

"Van Nuys Airport Aviation Career Day serves as an excellent opportunity to educate our youth about the variety of career possibilities in the aviation and aerospace sectors,” said Senator Menjivar. “It’s inspiring to see the next generation of innovators, dreamers, and leaders in the San Fernando Valley gain insight and awareness of an integral industry to our region."

“I am proud to partner with the Van Nuys Airport to offer an Aviation Career Day for 700 local students,” said Councilmember Imelda Padilla. “Creating career pathways for high paying jobs in the region is a priority for me. That’s why my office is thrilled to support initiatives that expose and inspire our youth to seek such opportunities.”

VNY has long been a premier generator of employment opportunities, supporting over 10,000 jobs and drawing talent from all over the world. More than 200 businesses flourish within VNY’s 730 acres, offering essential services ranging from emergency medical flights, flight instruction, charter services, and aircraft maintenance.

"Events specifically for students, like today’s Aviation Career Day, can significantly alter the path of our student's future careers for the better," added LAUSD Board Vice President Schmerelson. “We’re grateful to the Van Nuys Airport and Los Angeles World Airports for putting on such an inspiring event for our youth.”

"Investing in the education of our students and future workforce is crucial for both our industry and our region," said Van Nuys Airport Manager Paul Herrera. "A hands-on, interactive day at the Van Nuys Airport not only helps to empower students of the San Fernando Valley but also provides them with valuable insights on pathways to exciting careers in aviation."

Van Nuys Airport's commitment to fostering the future of the San Fernando Valley doesn't stop with Aviation Career Day. Looking ahead, the airport is planning to expand its educational outreach initiatives, with a particular focus on providing scholarships and mentorship programs for students interested in pursuing careers in aviation. These initiatives aim to empower young minds to reach for the skies, reinforcing Van Nuys Airport's role as a catalyst for educational and professional growth in the region.
