LOS ANGELES BOARD OF AIRPORT COMMISSIONERS APPROVES MODERNIZATION OF LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE'S DISPATCH AND RECORD-KEEPING SYSTEMS

(Los Angeles, CA) Yesterday, the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) approved the purchase of new computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and records management system (RMS) infrastructure for use by Los Angeles World Airports' (LAWA) Los Angeles Airport Police Division (APD). In accordance with LAWA's strategic goal of innovating for security, efficiency and effectiveness, the new CAD and RMS system will modernize APD's dispatching and records retrieval systems, allowing the division to respond rapidly to situations with a reliable and quick connection to intelligence information and other first-responder agencies.
"Speed and information are essential for any law enforcement officer to do his or her job effectively, and with today's Board approval, Los Angeles Airport Police will become even more effective in their day-to-day policing," said Patrick M. Gannon, Deputy Executive Director for Homeland Security, LAWA. "This next-generation technology will help us enhance our ability to communicate amongst ourselves and other law enforcement agencies, which strengthens our ability to protect our airports from terrorism and other threats."

"This new technology will provide more incident intelligence to our officers than ever before, allowing Los Angeles Airport Police to do their jobs efficiently and effectively."
The new CAD and RMS systems include CAD-to-CAD interoperability, CAD/mapping, unit deployment recommendations, CAD/mobile handheld devices, messaging bulletins, and report capabilities. These capabilities will allow APD personnel to quickly send and receive information without having to visit an in-car terminal or other stationary piece of IT infrastructure. Information will be available anywhere the officer is, increasing his or her mobility and reach throughout the LAX area.
The new systems will also allow APD officers to communicate directly with Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers across distinct, yet compatible radio and dispatch systems in real-time. This capability allows officers of both agencies to exchange information, which can include arrest records that could be used when a vehicle is detained at LAX. APD will have the capability to interact directly with other first-responder organizations, which are to be determined.
The new CAD system will replace APD's existing dispatch system, which has been operational for 25 years and is reaching the end of its useful life. Replacement of APD's CAD program also addresses recommendations from the Terminal 3 Shooting After Action Report, which recommended replacement to improve APD response time and improve agency coordination.
The contract for the new CAD and RMS was awarded to Motorola Solutions, Inc., of Los Angeles, and includes equipment, project management, training, maintenance & support, and system integrations. The five-year contract comes with five one-year renewal options, and valued at an amount not to exceed $9.3 million.

wego.com. LAX is part of a system of two Southern California airports – along with Van Nuys general aviation – that are owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, a proprietary department of the City of Los Angeles that receives no funding from the City’s general fund.
