Van Nuys Airport Manager Receives Airport Executive Partnership Award

(Van Nuys, California – April 30, 2015) Jess Romo, airport manager at Van Nuys Airport (VNY), was selected to receive the 2014 National Air Transportation Association (NATA) Airport Executive Partnership Award given annually to recognize an airport manager for his or her outstanding efforts in fostering relationships between aviation businesses and airport operators. Romo also manages LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT).

NATA, a public policy group representing the interests of aviation businesses, selected Romo for his leadership in developing and maintaining a partnership between airport operators and airport tenants, notably at VNY. Romo will receive the award at the NATA 2015 Aviation Business Conference in Washington D.C. in June.

NATA made an excellent choice in selecting Jess for this award," said Gina Marie Lindsey, Executive Director of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). "He has done a great job building landlord and tenant relationships at VNY, and fostering and maintaining an open line of communication. We are fortunate to have him managing both VNY and ONT."

Romo has served as airport manager at VNY, one of the world’s busiest general aviation airports, since 2010, and served as airport manager at ONT since 2006. His career spans over 25 years with the City of Los Angeles. Prior to joining LAWA in 1997, he worked for a number of City departments in areas of real estate, development, and budget management. His aviation

experience includes management in all areas of airport operations with a special emphasis in fiscal oversight, lease administration, and negotiations. Romo became an Accredited Airport Executive in 2012. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Irvine and a master’s degree in industrial psychology from California State University, Los Angeles.

One of the world's busiest general aviation airports, VNY serves as a valued San Fernando Valley resource, providing ongoing leadership in general aviation, business and community service. Dedicated to noncommercial air travel, VNY had over 232,000 operations in 2014. More than 100 businesses are located on the 730-acre airport, including four major fixed-base operators and numerous aviation service companies.

Annually, the airport contributes approximately $1.3 billion to the Southern California economy and supports over 12,000 jobs.
