Van Nuys High School Students Shadow VNY Aviation Experts
(Van Nuys, California – February 18, 2015) Today, 41 students from Van Nuys High School learned about various exciting aviation career paths through hands-on activities at Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Groundhog Job Shadow Day is held in partnership with Junior Achievement of Southern California and airport tenants
Students began their day with a tour of the airfield before shadowing various businesses located on the airfield including Aerolease, Castle & Cooke, Clay Lacy, Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Fire Station #114, MP Aero, North Valley Occupational Center, Rotor FX, Skybird Aviation, Signature Flight Support, TWC Aviation, and Van Nuys Airport. Diana Morales, a 12
th Grade student at Van Nuys High School said, "I learned a lot about the different opportunities in this field. This experience showed me that you can find things you like to do and apply it to aviation."Job Shadow Day also benefits employers at VNY who rely on these students to be part of the next generation of aviation workers. "We enjoy this event every year. It gives us a chance to share our company and at the same time show students what to expect in the workplace," stated Norm Anderson, Chief Operating Officer at Skybird Aviation.
