All Charged Up!

Van Nuys Airport Unveils New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

(Van Nuys, California – August 19, 2013) Drivers of electric vehicles now have a new place to charge their batteries. A total of eight Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations have been installed on the first floor of the parking structure at the Van Nuys FlyAway parking facility.

The stations, which went into operation on July 30, are already popular with users of the FlyAway. Work commenced May 29, 2013 and was completed on July 30, 2013.

"This was a project initiated by EV drivers who told us they wanted new, industry compliant charging stations at the FlyAway," said Debbie Bowers, Deputy Executive Director of Commercial Development. "It didn’t take long for drivers to discover the stations, and we expect them to be used even more as drivers become more aware that they are in place."

The project was funded primarily through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. LAWA’s cost for this project was approximately $3,500.

The only restrictions are that vehicles cannot park over 30 days and the spaces where the electric vehicles are placed are reserved for electric vehicles only. This program was initiated by LAWA. The $4 per day parking rates apply and the chargers are available on a first come first serve basis.
