Valley Middle School Teachers Invited to Apply for Aviation/Community Service Mini-Grants

The Valley Economic Alliance

 

 

(Van Nuys, CA)- Los Angeles Unified School District middle school teachers (grades 6-8) in the San Fernando Valley are encouraged to apply for two mini-grants to use for employing aviation and community service in their curriculum.

Sponsored by Van Nuys Airport (VNY), the Rotary Club of Van Nuys and The Valley Economic Alliance, the first-year program will provide one $500 grant and one $300 grant, with the awardees announced in late March 2009.

Applicants must submit a concise proposal including a statement of program, goals, methodology, evaluation mechanism and budget.

Applications are due on or before 5 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2009. Teachers can obtain the application forms from their principals. If needed, teachers can also call Van Nuys Airport at (818) 909-3529 for an application.

“The mini-grant sponsors recognize the challenges teachers face due to budget constraints, and the value of aviation and community service to the San Fernando Valley,” said Van Nuys Airport Manager Selena Birk. “Through the mini-grants, we aim continue our longstanding commitment to the education of tomorrow’s leaders by helping teachers further enhance the student learning environment.”
