CONTRACT APPROVED FOR RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING NEAR VAN NUYS AIRPORT

(Los Angeles, California – June 2, 2008)  The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners today awarded a contract to Professional Building Contractors, Inc., of El Segundo, for a portion of Van Nuys Airport’s (VNY) Residential Soundproofing Program.  The $1,943,700 contract covers sound insulation modifications on 125 dwelling units (two single-family dwellings, two five-unit apartment buildings, one 65-unit apartment building and 48 condominium units).

The Van Nuys Residential Soundproofing Program includes 1,100 eligible residences with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNL) of 65 decibels or higher.  Contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation and heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) to achieve a noise level reduction of approximately 50 percent in a home’s interior.

The 125 dwelling units in this project will bring the number of units completed or under construction and approved by the Board for the Van Nuys program to 720.  The remaining 380 units are either in the design phase, awaiting commencement of design, or the owners have not responded or have declined to participate.

The program is administered by the Los Angeles World Airports Residential Soundproofing Bureau.  Residents may call (310) 646-7444, ext. 3072 for further information.
