Apply when an open vacancy is announced, submit an Employees Report (ER) and an interview with a Lieutenant or Sergeant. This only applies to Los Angeles Airport Police Officers. Although some members are U.S. military veterans, a military background is not required. Members must meet a 6 month probationary period, by way of voluntary merits by attending events and training to receive a ceremonial uniform and become a full pledge member.

Requests from the public for events must be in the best interest of the Los Angeles World Airports, LAXPD and the event sponsor. LAXPD Honor Guard will participate only if the event meets general community relations criteria and is without additional cost to LAXPD. LAXPD Honor Guard can be reached at the Office of Administrative Services at 424-646-5591.

LAXPD Honor Guard does not go on tour.

LAXPD Honor Guard serves upon request or by direction from LAXPD Command Staff. However, LAXPD Honor Guard sends members on a yearly basis to participate during the National Law Enforcement Week in Sacramento, CA and Washington, DC to honor the fallen officers who have died in the line of duty.

LAXPD Honor Guard trains on a quarterly basis or when the need arises to prepare for requested events.

LAXPD Honor Guard uses the Class A police uniform and an Honor Guard ceremonial uniform.

Honor Guard members range in rank from Police Officer to Lieutenant. On details, the Officer in Charge (OIC) is the supervisor overseeing the members during an event. OIC duties can be tasked to an Officer or a Lieutenant at a given event.

The LAXPD Honor Guard is not a permanent position, but a collateral and voluntary position.

Members are able to resign at any time with an exit interview with the Honor Guard Sergeant or Lieutenant.
