Team LAWA Is Making a Difference in the Community
Employees and tenants at Van Nuys Airport are committed to public service and giving back to the community. At two recent events, that commitment was on full display as volunteers came out to support local organizations.
On May 17, 2014, the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers and Native Plants held a volunteer event at their beautiful facility in Sun Valley. Volunteers from Mid Continent Instruments, MP Aero, and Van Nuys Airport literally rolled up their sleeves for planting, spreading mulch, and weeding.
Team LAWA also participated in Operation Gratitude, a non-profit that shows appreciation for both Active Duty and Veteran military officers. On June 22, volunteers attended an event where they assembled care packages to send to troops deployed overseas as well as their children, First Responders, Veterans and Wounded Warriors. Our own Team LAWA with 23 participants joined a volunteer force of over 500 strong, and together prepared 5,423 care packages and created 1,505 paracord survival bracelets. These little care packages make a big impression: one U.S.Navy officer who received one said, “It surely placed a smile on my face to know that there are people back home thinking about their service men and service women.”
