The Bob Hope Hollywood USO at LAX

Since 1941, around the country and around the world, the USO strengthens America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation. Bob Hope USO is not a government agency and relies entirely on contributions from patriotic Americans and philanthropic corporations and organizations.

The Bob Hope USO at LAX is open 24/7, to active duty military and their dependent families. In recognition of a career spent in the military, we also welcome military retirees, who meet our admission requirements, on a space available basis, between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m. This welcoming “safe haven” for troops and their families is located on the Lower/Arrivals Level of LAX, directly across the roadway and between Terminals 1 and 2.

The 4,000 square foot center is serviced by over 300 volunteers who staff the “Hollywood Canteen,” serving hot coffee, sandwiches, snacks and refreshments. A big-screen TV lounge, full-service computer center, and nap room with leather recliners offer an opportunity to relax and catch a few winks between flights or remain overnight. The center features a secure luggage storage room, men’s and women’s restrooms and showers, an outdoor patio and, for families traveling with children, a family room stocked with toys, rocking chair and essentials.

The center showcases a tribute to famed comedian and USO entertainer Bob Hope, featuring his stage “uniforms,” photos, awards and other memorabilia in our reception area.

All services are provided without charge to active duty military personnel and their dependent families. Additional services include the free use of cell phones to call home; a team of volunteers to assist with onward transportation services; short-term temporary parking for brief visits, passenger pick-up and drop off, as well as discount hotel reservations.

More than 100,000 troops and their families, as well as eligible traveling military retirees, visit the Bob Hope USO at LAX annually, an increase of over 700 percent that has led to a need for an expansion. We anticipate the opening of a new 7,000-square-foot LAX Airport Center in March 2018 on the ground level of the iconic Theme Building, centrally located between the north and south terminals. Bob Hope USO provides USO services, programming and outreach at four airport centers, also including John Wayne Orange County (SNA) Airport, Ontario International (ONT) Airport, and Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), and at dozens of military installations across 51,000 square miles in Southern California from San Luis Obispo to the San Diego County line to over 200,000 members of the military and their families each year.
