About
Completed in 2019, the modernization of Terminals 7 and 8 included more than $546 million in modernization work. Nearly all of the terminals’ public spaces and were renovated and four Transportation Security Administration screening checkpoints were consolidated into one 12-lane location, which feature the first Automated Screening Lanes to be deployed at LAX. The project, which was the first upgrade of the terminals since 1998, encompassed 700,000 square feet of existing space, as well as the addition of 20,000 square feet for a United Club lounge on a new fourth level of Terminal 7.
Features include:
- An expansive check-in lobby that maximizes use of incoming light and incorporates modern self-service tools, including self-tagging baggage kiosks
- Remodeled boarding gate areas that feature a modern design, including a variety of comfortable seating options and numerous charging stations for guests’ electronic devices
- All public restrooms now have environmentally efficient fixtures
- Existing Checked Baggage Inspection System replaced with a new efficient, high-speed system
Additional benefits include:
- Reconfigured aircraft gates that can accommodate 19 narrow- and wide-body aircraft
- New carousels in the revamped baggage claim area that make baggage pick-up more efficient
- United Club members can enjoy the airline’s new larger Terminal 7 lounge with an outdoor terrace, where they can work or relax while taking in spectacular airfield views
