ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SHORT-TERM LOTS TO RE-OPEN

(Ontario, California - May 20, 2002) Ontario International Airport’s (ONT) hourly lots, which were closed since Sept. 11 due to a federal mandate restricting public parking within 300 feet of the terminals, re-opened today. The lots have new parking rates designed to accommodate patrons visiting the airport for a short period and to minimize traffic congestion in front of the terminals.

Short-term Lots 2 and 4 cost $1 for each 30 minutes or fraction thereof and have a two-hour time limit. Vehicles parked more than two hours will be charged a $24 overtime fee and may also be subject to citation and/or impoundment at the owner’s expense. Short-term Lot 2 has 346 spaces and short-term Lot 4 has 341 spaces.

"The hourly lots are convenient for airport visitors picking up or dropping off family and friends, purchasing an airline ticket, checking on flight schedules inside the terminals, and conducting other airport business that take only a short period of time," said ONT Airport Manager Jens Rivera. "Signs are posted at all of ONT’s parking lot entrances and surrounding roadways informing the public of the airport’s various parking options and rates."

"We were able to re-open the hourly lots because the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) granted the airport a waiver to the 300-foot rule," said Chief John Bangs, ONT’s airport police chief. "We completed a physical structure assessment in April and submitted the study results and a request for relief of the restrictions to TSA. They reviewed the study results and concluded that because of the terminals’ design and stringent seismic standards, the terminals would not be subjected to catastrophic structural failure in the event of an explosion."

Overnight parking is available in long-term Lots 2, 3 and 4. Long-term parking in Lots 2 and 4 cost $1 for each half-hour or fraction thereof to a maximum of $12 per day. Long-term parking in Lot 3 costs $1 for each half-hour or fraction thereof to a maximum of $9 per day. Overnight parking is also available in Lot F, which is free for the first three hours and costs $1 for each two hours thereafter to a maximum of $6 per day. Free shuttle service is available from Lot F.

ONT is located approximately 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The airport is owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, a Los Angeles City department which also owns and operates Los Angeles International, Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys Airports.
