Jeffrey Utterback, Chief Commercial Development Group

Jeffrey Utterback is the Deputy Executive Director of the Commercial Development Group for Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), where he is responsible for directing all revenue-generating divisions. This oversight includes all real estate and property development, concessions, commercial and land acquisitions, lease negotiations, management of all terminals leases, air cargo, maintenance, airfield, and all off-airport leases. His responsibility includes the development of all revenues through the attraction, retention, and growth of business at the airports.


Utterback joined LAWA in February 2019, bringing more than 30 years of combined private sector real estate and public sector positions. Most recently, Utterback was the Director of Real Estate & Economic Development for the Port of Seattle, where he led all major real estate acquisitions and development projects across the entire aviation, maritime, and cruise facilities. Prior to joining the Port, Utterback served as the Senior Managing Director at Kennedy Wilson, a global real estate investment company, where he was responsible for Pacific Northwest. Utterback also served as an Investment officer for the Washington State Investment Board (WSIB) and had oversight over an international portfolio with a total invested equity capital of $4 billion. He also served as the Head of WSIB’s Global Co-Investment vehicle, a $500 million fund for entity-level transactions around the globe.



Utterback started his career as an architect and then transitioned to real estate development, where he spent 20 years running his own fee development business, directly developing nearly $1 billion worth of institutional properties in Central Europe and East Africa. He earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and continues to maintain his registered architect license in California and Texas. He is an active member of ULI and NAIOP SoCal.
