Barbara Yamamoto was appointed Chief Experience Officer (CXO) for Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) in July 2015. She manages LAWA’s airport-wide Guest Experience Initiative to ensure exceptional guest experiences at Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys general aviation airports.
Yamamoto’s experience draws from over 29 years of service to the City of Los Angeles and LAWA. As a manager for the Guest Services Division, she managed 130 staff members and 300 volunteers across four programs: Guest Experience Members (GEM), Volunteer Information Professionals (VIP), Pets Unstressing Passengers (PUPs) and the Airport Response Team (ART). She has also served as LAWA’s Ethics Officer, where she developed and managed the agency’s first Office of Ethics and Business Conduct, where she helped to promote a positive, ethical work environment for all employees.
Prior to her appointment as Ethics Officer, Yamamoto served as LAX Community Relations Director for five years, where she developed and implemented community relations programs to improve and enhance LAX’s relationship with its neighboring airport communities. In addition to serving as an adjunct professor teaching Public Relations writing at Loyola Marymount University, she also served as LAWA Special Olympics Director for the 2015 World Games.
Yamamoto earned a Master of Arts degree in Journalism/Public Relations from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
