VNAA President Curt Castagna Wins the Prestigious Silk Scarf Award
The National Business Aviation Association’s Silk Scarf award is one of our industry’s highest honors, recognizing and paying tribute to outstanding career contributions. In February 2014, it was presented to Curt Castagna, a hero in the local aviation industry.
Curt serves as president and chief executive officer of the Aerolease/Aeroplex Group, and president of the Van Nuys Airport Association. Over his 35-year career, he’s made a significant impact, advancing aviation in Southern California and educating the community about the importance of airport businesses.
The Silk Scarf generally recognizes lifetime and career achievements. When you look at Curt’s accomplishments just in the past year, it’s easy to understand why he’s a deserving recipient.
- With Curt’s help, VNAA successfully lead a campaign to save VNY’s aircraft mechanics school from closure. This invaluable educational resource will continue to prepare hundreds of young men and women for high-skilled, high-paying jobs in the aviation industry each year.
- Curt was also a pivotal figure in negotiations with Los Angeles World Airports on a nine-month project to rehabilitate VNY’s primary runway. Thanks in large part to his efforts, the $20.5 million, seven-month project was completed with minimal impact or disruption to tenants.
- In 2013, Curt worked on important airport issues that included negotiation of fair lease rates and terms; establishing reasonable minimum standards; air traffic control tower modernization; and establishing plans to promote future economic health.
Let’s congratulate Curt on his prestigious award, and thank him for all he does to support our industry and community.
