Airport, Rotary Offer Mini-Grants to Local Teachers
Dedicated to aviation and community service, Van Nuys Airport and the Rotary Club of Greater Van Nuys are once again partnering to provide mini-grants to three Los Angeles Unified School District middle school teachers in the San Fernando Valley.
With the budget challenges teachers face, Rotarians and the airport believe teachers can utilize these extra funds to enhance student learning and create an even better educational environment in local classrooms.
The mini-grant program recognizes teachers (grades 6-8) who use creativity in their teaching and employ aviation and community service in their curriculum.
Three grants will be awarded: first place $500, second place $300 and third place $200. Applications are currently being accepted, and the awardees will be announced at an awards ceremony on March 20, 2014.
The mini-grants are available only to San Fernando Valley area LA Unified School District middle school teachers (grades 6-8), and a completed application must be submitted to Van Nuys Airport by 5 p.m., February 7, 2014. Awardees will be selected based on submission of a concise proposal including a statement of program, goals, methodology, evaluation mechanism and budget.
