The Valley Economic Alliance Honors Van Nuys Airport at Annual Valley of the Stars Gala
Van Nuys Airport was proud to receive the 2013 Star of the Valley Award at the Valley Economic Alliance’s 16th Annual Valley of the Stars Gala. The airport was recognized for its “dedication, accomplishments, leadership and commitment to the community.”
“It was truly a privilege to be recognized alongside LAUSD’s North Valley Occupational and Aviation Center and aviation pioneer Clay Lacy, both having such storied histories at Van Nuys Airport,” said Airport Manager Jess Romo.
In addition to honoring the airport and Lacy at the black-tie event, a group from the University of North Dakota Aerospace Foundation presented a gift of $25,000 to the Los Angeles Unified School District’s aircraft mechanics school.
The donation will be used to award scholarships to low-income students preparing for a variety of well-paying, high-skilled jobs as trained airframe and power plant mechanics. Recently threatened with closure because of budget cuts, the District’s aircraft mechanics school was saved by a $100,000 donation from Si Robin of Sensor Antennas, a strong advocacy campaign and rent relief from Los Angeles World Airports. LAUSD now pays $1 per year for rent.
