LAX RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING  Illustrated Picture

Since 1997, Los Angeles World Airports, working closely with local Council offices, has been implementing an Airport Residential Soundproofing Program (RSP) for aircraft noise impacted areas in the City of Los Angeles. Funding for this program was made available by Los Angeles World Airports. LAWA installed acoustic modifications to lessen the effects of aircraft noise in impacted homes adjacent to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).  This program was strictly voluntary and did not incur any cost to the property owner.

The program covered residential buildings in areas of the City of Los Angeles with a recorded Community Noise Equivalent Level (CNEL) of 65 decibels (dB) and higher as shown on the contour map of the fourth quarter of 1992.

DURATION OF THE RESIDENTIAL SOUNDPROOFING PROGRAM
The Residential soundproofing program began in 1997 with implementation of the first soundproofing project in Playa del Rey and Westchester in the City of Los Angeles.  At that time, LAWA opened a community office on Sepulveda Blvd., which remained open to the public until September 2009.  After an extensive outreach effort to contact all eligible homeowners, a final deadline for participation in the program was issued for June 1, 2010.  Since the start of the program, LAWA soundproofed over 7,300 residential dwelling units near LAX.

At this time, soundproofing is not offered to new participants.  LAWA understands there may be some homeowners who feel that their homes are impacted by aircraft noise; however due to the possible contour changes as a result of current or upcoming projects, additional soundproofing may take place when a newer, more reliable noise impact contour map is established. The Soundproofing Office can be reached at (424) 646-7444.

If you would like to file a complaint about aircraft noise, you may contact Noise Management by calling the dedicated 24-hour number listed below or by filling out the online complaint form via the WebTrak application.  When filing a complaint, be sure to provide your name, address, date and time of the noise event, and other essential information to effectively investigate and document your concerns.
