Comments:

Phase 1 of the VNY Runway Improvement Project has been completed which included the installation of a new blast fence. New run-up area procedures are in effect and were distributed to tenants on April 25, 2013. Contact Airport Operations at (818) 442-6506 with any questions.  

Phase 2 of the VNY Runway Improvement Project is underway. Runway 16R has been shortened, and is operating with a relocated threshold and a Pulse Light Approach Slope Indicator (PLASI) to provide visual approach guidance.  Please note, the following will remain out of service throughout the duration of the project: 

• The 16R ILS  
• The 16R VASI   
• The 16R ALS  

Also, a temporary blast deflector has been positioned north of taxiway F on runway 16R.

Comments:

Following final paving of the run-up area, Phase 1 of the VNY Runway Improvement Project will be completed on Sunday, April 28. Phase 2A will begin on Saturday, April 27 with night preparatory work for the relocated threshold and PLASI installation. The following night closures
(10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) will occur:

                End date:   Wednesday, May 1  

                Duration:  Four nights 

                Hours:       10 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

Please note, the ILS will be out of service starting on Sunday, April 28 and throughout the duration of the VNY Runway Improvement Project. VNY will begin operating on a new relocated threshold and Phase 2 of the VNY Runway Improvement Project will begin on Monday, April 29. Comments: Construction Alert No. 4 Phase 1 of the VNY Runway Improvement Project will commence on Wed., Feb. 27, 2013. Work includes improvements to the north run-up area only and will not impact operations on runway 16R/34L. Pilots are urged to check facility NOTAMS for pertinent taxiway closures. At this time, the project team does not anticipate any changes to the overall project schedule target dates. Mobilization will take place for approximately 90 days and activity will be limited to the staging area located at Byrd Street off Woodley Avenue on the east side of the airport. Comments: Complete information regarding the project schedule and phasing will be available at a tenant briefing and workshop scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 8, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Airtel Plaza Hotel.
