LAWA’s Business & Job Resources Center Launches New Outreach Initiative and Website to Facilitate Airport-Related Economic Growth

BJRC enhances laser-like focus on connecting local businesses and job seekers
with opportunities with LAWA divisions, tenants and prime contractors

LOS ANGELES, May 27, 2009 – The Business & Job Resources Center (BJRC) today announced the launch of its new outreach initiative and website, both of which will significantly strengthen the BJRC’s role as a critically important link between LAWA and the community.  The BJRC serves as a hub of activity and opportunity that is committed to the shared economic interests of LAWA, its tenants, prime contractors and, most importantly, the emerging businesses, job seekers and students in the communities impacted most by LAWA’s projects and activities.  LAWA is the Los Angeles City department that owns and operates LAX, LA/Ontario International (ONT) and Van Nuys airports (VNY).

“One of our core values is ensuring that local businesses and community residents enjoy full participation and access to airport contracting and employment opportunities,” said Joyce Sloss, director of the BJRC.  “At this critical juncture in our history and our economy, we are more committed than ever to initiating programs that stimulate business and create jobs.”

The new initiative and website support the BJRC’s four service areas by increasing awareness and access to the wealth of resources the BJRC has to offer. According to Sloss, they are designed to communicate to LAWA divisions, tenants and prime contractors the value proposition of partnering with the BJRC to access the resources within the local community, while at the same time educating job seekers, students and emerging businesses on how best to take advantage of opportunities related to the modernization of LAX.

Added Sloss: “Our business and employment outreach, educational internships and bond assistance programs are empowering and enriching the communities that fuel LAWA’s growth and its vital contribution to our local economy.  We have developed an interactive website designed to be a “One Stop Shop” for our business and community stakeholders for greater transparency and access to airport business and employment opportunities and educational internships for local students.”

About the BJRC

The Business & Job Resources Center (BJRC) was created to support the shared economic interests of both Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), its divisions, tenants and prime contractors, as well as the local workforce, business community and student populations.

The BJRC serves as the high-leverage connection point between LAWA and the community by ensuring that:

  • The human and business resources in the surrounding communities are developed and brought to bear on behalf of the effort to modernize Los Angeles’ world-class airport facilities.
  • The resulting economic benefits are broadly shared by emerging local businesses and the communities most impacted by LAWA’s growth.
