The Gateways International Internship Program
allows participants to work in various divisions at Los Angeles International (LAX) and Van Nuys
Airports. Interns are placed within a division based on their career
interest. As an international student you will gain valuable work experience in
a real work environment and network with perspective employers at Los Angeles
World Airports (LAWA).
Participants must be at least 16 years of age, have a good work ethic, reliable transportation and must work at least 10 hours a week, two days per
week. Perspective interns may be asked to be interviewed by LAWA staff prior to
entering the program.
As a policy, interns cannot be hired or
placed under the direct or indirect supervision of relatives.
International students may apply for the
internship program year round and must have a J-1 (work) or F-1 (academic) visa
to be eligible to work at LAWA. International students who are taking classes
in the United States and meet the Student Professional Worker (SPW) requirements
can apply for the SPW Paid Program. International students who are not enrolled in an educational institution in the US may apply for the
Volunteer/Non-Paid Internship if they can make a three to four month commitment
to the internship program. Students that possess an F-1 visa must also obtain a
Form I-20, CPT (curricular practical training) Employment, and approval to work
from the student service’s office in their academic institution.
